A house in Cheltenham, England, was -- and maybe still is -- home to the quiet haunting of a phantom woman in black clothing. For several years starting in 1882 the haunting was recorded by a young lady in the house, who tried several times to approach and touch the spectral woman; but she was always just out of reach, and could vanish at a moment's notice. The phantom glided through strings set across the stairs, and was witnessed not only by friends of the household but by the family's dog who would hop up in friendly greeting even when the phantom wasn't visible to anyone else!
