Jólaköttur -- which literally translates as "Christmas Cat" -- is a gigantic feline reported to hunt out unfortunate victims to eat on Christmas Eve in Iceland. But it's easy to avoid; it won't attack anyone wearing new clothing. Of course, in the past any piece of new clothing would have been hard to find or afford in Iceland; so children relied on parents, and parents often relied on their employers... and fear of the Christmas Cat was a worry indeed!
